Watch: Kamal. - essential

The London based artist gives us a taste of his forthcoming mixtape with this emotional cut.

North-West London-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Kamal. at just 20 years old is already an Ivor Novello award nominated artist, Billie Eilish co-signed, and has amassed 225 million streams, launching into 2023 with the news of his forthcoming mixtape so here you are, drowning due March 17th - giving us a taste with the emotional new single essential.

With the gentle pitter-patter of keys and the growing strums of an acoustic guitar, essential opens stripped back and vulnerable, allowing plenty of space for Kamal’s raw and emotive voice to clearly and smoothly unravel a story of a deep love that has fallen apart. As the track evolves with sharp cutting lines such as “funny how I thought you were essential”, the addition of bass and a beat abrasively solidify the emotional depth of the lyrics, bringing the song to new heights as it reaches a climactic ending.

With so here you are, drowning comes two years of documenting the feeling of trying to stay afloat, the ebbs and flows of a relationship and ultimately drowning in it all. But for now indulge in the sincere and vulnerable depth Kamal. has to offer with essentiaand it's accompanying video below.
